Well, I think what I wanted to speak to
and what I did was the importance of CACE and higher education today. There is a great need for solid contemplative practices education for both faculty and
students, and in today’s world with the increase of mindfulness and even “Mc’Mindfulness” as some are talking about, we have a range of opportunities for
faculty and students around the country to develop techniques in meditation. I
think with a clear meditation practice and focus, it helps one and particularly
our generation of students, to deal with the suffering in a way, to know that it’s
there but to know that the possibilities of their own transformation and the work
that they may be called to, can alleviate suffering in the long run. So there’s a
great deal of work to do and I am delighted to be a part of Trustees and
the Advisory Committee and I see supporting that both with my time and
whatever financial contributions that I can make, and I think for those of us who
believe in Naropa, who believe in the need to educate the next generation from
a much more ethical, contemplative stance, then it’s important that they
provide as much as they can out of their own means.
